A Phenomenal Experience for Exceptional Kids!
UYC to Host Brendan Sailing Program

20 May 2008
In late June, an extraordinary sailing program will be launched on Lanier which
will certainly have a profound impact on it participants. For over twenty years
the Brendan Sail Training Program has been engaged in helping youths with learning
differences to find themselves and new levels of confidence through sailing.
Originally founded in the areas of Annapolis and St. Mary's, Maryland, the
Brendan
Sail Training Program will be coming to Lake Lanier. From June 23rd through
July 2nd, the University Yacht Club, in cooperation with the Atlanta Sea Scouts,
will host the Brendan Sailing Program to benefit up to twenty of our exceptional
youth (ages 10-15).
The program is far more than a simplistic week of sailing, the students will
learn, not only to take care of themselves and their boat, but, more importantly,
the will learn to take care of each other. Through the careful guidance of their
instructors, the new sailors will learn the value of a new skill and its importance
in team building, walking away from the event with a new level of confidence and
self esteem. To learn more about the program, you are encouraged to visit their
website
for more details.
Base camp for the Brendan Sail Training Program will be the beautiful grounds
of the University Yacht Club in Flowery Branch, GA. Tuition is $250.00 with some
scholarships available.
Parents interested in getting their exceptional children involved should email
Susan Reddaway or Linda
Merkle for full details.
